Scholarship Fund

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and future.”
—Jeremiah 29:10-12

Why offer a Scholarship Program?

Nepal has a literacy rate of only 45% (63% of men and 28% of women) and does not offer free public education to its young people. It's also very difficult for children to gain any vocational or professional skills and, therefore, a hope for a better future.

The Scholarship Program makes it possible for children from impoverished backgrounds to attend school, college, Bible school, or vocational school. These opportunities, in turn, promote leadership, as well as technological and other necessary skills for the children who are the key to Nepal's future.

Who benefits from the Scholarship Program?

Children who are cared for or identified through ministries who partner with EquipNepal are all eligible to benefit by the Scholarship Program. This includes Blessed Children's Home, Studio TEN, Flowerblossom Home, and several others.

Why do you suggest that children receive their continuing education in Nepal?

Although some may wish for the children to continue their education in the US, there are many reasons for them to do so in Nepal or India:

Travel and visa costs to other countries are expensive and complicated
Cost for schooling is much less (see below)
No culture shock
Less language differences
Support system and mentors are nearer
Easier to network and find work within their own region and culture
Will train and use same tools in school as their vocation
Adopted families can witness their successes

What educational opportunities are available to the children in Nepal and India?

Here is a short list of some of the available schools:

Himalayan Nursing School (Rir Hospital): $1450/year or $121/month
Tribuvan University (government school): $123/year or $11/month
Kathmandu Art School (private): $672/year or $56/month
Bible school (Nepal and India): $600/year or $50/month
Tansen Nursing School: $1500/year
Kathmandu University: $4800 - $5500/year
Kistlund School, Kathmandu, Private, Pre-K thru Grade 7 (includes handcraft & A/V training): $170/year or $15/month

How do children qualify for scholarships?

The children are encouraged to set goals for their futures, so many of them already know "what they want to be" when they grow up. There is an application process for scholarships, which will include a written application, interviews, and references.

Can I designate my contribution to a specific child or vocation?

Yes! We already have some sponsors contributing $10, $20, or more per month. These funds are earmarked for specific children. If the child does not choose to continue schooling or isn't capable, the funds will be used for another child's education.

Some children might not continue in school or aren't capable of doing so. Is there another option to help with their futures?

Yes! We're committed to helping these young people become self-sufficient. They can apply for a microloan to help start a business (bakery, dairy, etc.,) or pay for training to work in construction, carpentry, bus driving, and other vocations.

We foresee some contributions designated to specific vocations such Bible training (pastors and evangelists), medical training (physicians, nurses, dentists, midwives, laboratory technician), education, and others.

Contributions to the Scholarship Program's general fund will be used to fund the most imminent needs.

EquipNepal is already making a difference in the lives of dozens of Nepali children.

With your help, the Scholarship Program will continue this miracle by equipping them with a trade, vocation, or profession that keeps them from returning to the poverty they came from.

Thank you for your contributions!
